The third edition of European Smoke Alarm Day, powered by the European Fire Safety Alliance and the Federation of European Fire Officers, will take place on Friday, November 22nd, as part of European Fire Safety Week 2024.
The mission is clear: to urge more European governments to mandate smoke alarms in all domestic homes, raise awareness of national and local smoke alarm campaigns, and educate the public on the life-saving benefits of smoke alarms.
There is an interactive map on the campaign website, highlighting the status of smoke alarm legislation across Europe. We encourage policymakers to explore this resource.
The site also offers households practical advice on smoke alarm installation and maintenance, along with video messages of support from fire service leaders and MEPs across the EU.
We’re enhancing our campaign website to provide tailored information at three levels: national/regional government, local fire services, and consumers.
This year, we’re expanding our reach to three new countries—Estonia, Latvia, and Hungary—while continuing our efforts across our 2024 target countries and beyond.
Additionally, we’ll be relaunching our social media campaign across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn to engage our target audiences, share fire safety tips, and promote best practices for smoke alarm installation and maintenance. The campaign will run from November through December 2024, with new content and safety messages added regularly.
To cap off the campaign, we and our partners will host an online webinar on Friday, November 22nd. The webinar will feature experts sharing insights on:
- The critical role of smoke alarms in reducing fatalities in residential homes
- Strategies for implementing smoke alarm legislation and regulations
- Effective smoke alarm campaigns across European countries.
Join us in making homes across Europe safer!
