The Risk Factory of the Twente Fire Department has been awarded the European Fire Safety Award 2025 for its outstanding contribution to fire safety education and awareness.

The European Fire Safety Award, a joint initiative of the European Fire Safety Alliance (EuroFSA) and the Federation of European Fire Officers (FEU), honors the best fire safety projects throughout Europe. The award draws attention to initiatives that successfully raise awareness, change behavior and inspire fire safety education.

For the 2025 edition, nominations came from Spain, Norway and the Netherlands, showcasing a diverse range of impactful fire safety projects across Europe.

Risk Factory Twente offers an innovative, hands-on learning experience in which primary and secondary school pupils are exposed to simulated real-life situations. Through practical scenarios, they learn how to recognize unsafe situations and how to respond effectively. By involving young people in two important phases of their lives, Risk Factory creates a comprehensive fire prevention program. Research shows that repeated exposure to risk messages leads to better and more sustainable results, ultimately making the Twente region safer. The initiative will also be expanded to include structured fire safety programs for independent seniors.

The awards ceremony in 2025 took place during the 8th International Safety Education Seminar in Levi, Lapland, Finland, on March 12-13, 2025.

FEU congratulates Risk Factory Twente on this well-deserved recognition!
